Elaine is the second longest serving member of staff having joined Glasgow Chamber of Commerce in January 2002 as Training and Events Manager. In her current role she supports the development of international partnerships within the worldwide chamber network to encourage members and businesses across Scotland to explore new markets. Her remit also includes the delivery of international trade training, Behind the Scenes International events, an International Trade Forum, meeting with overseas delegations, market awareness sessions - anything that involves demystifying the processes of trading globally.
Prior to working with the Chamber, Elaine spent 16 years working in enterprise development in Glasgow. Between 1986 and 1999 she worked for Glasgow Opportunities Enterprise Trust in a variety of roles including Head of Management Services and Business Start-Up Manager. She provided support and encouragement to start-up businesses through counselling and training and also developed an interest in female entrepreneurship. As a result of this interest she left Glasgow Opportunities in 1999 to take up the post of Marketing Manager with Wellpark Enterprise Centre, the UK's only women's enterprise centre.
A graduate of Glasgow, Strathclyde and Stirling universities, Elaine originally comes from Oban. As as a very much younger person she couldn't wait to leave the town to head to the big city to study but she now tries to spend at least one weekend a month there as she loves the beautiful scenery and catching up with family. Travel is a passion for Elaine (specialist subject Italy) as is dining out, walking and supporting the local retail sector! A word of warning though - don’t contemplate travelling at the same time as Elaine. Having been caught up in the Glasgow airport terrorist attack, the Icelandic ash cloud, various air traffic control strikes, etc make sure you check with her before booking your hols!
