Women's Networking Lunch: Gusto
Gusto Glasgow, 16 Bothwell St, Glasgow G2 6NU
From: Thursday 16 February 2017 12:00 To: Thursday 16 February 2017 14:30
The next in our popular series of Women's Networking Lunches takes place at Gusto in Glasgow's city centre.
The event is designed to bring together women from all sectors of the business community and is a good opportunity to make and reinforce valuable business contacts. Expand your contact base while enjoying a glass of wine and delicious two-course lunch with tea or coffee.
We will be hearing from Sarah Ballantyne, an experienced facilitator, manager and coach at Taylor Clarke.
The cost of not asking and negotiating for what we want is high… lower pay, lower representation at senior levels, doing more than our share at home. In theory sex discrimination and equal pay legislation means that women should receive equal treatment but the statistics and our own experiences tell us differently. There are many and complex factors at play, of course, but research on how women negotiate for what we want suggests that we may not always do ourselves justice:
- Men are 4 times more likely to ask for what they want
- As women we underestimate our own value and we fear asking for what we want makes us look ridiculous
During her talk Sarah will explore the issues and barriers women face in negotiating: what holds us back from asking for what we want and need. Then she’ll offer some tips for building skills in negotiation.
