SgurrEnergy was the star of the show at the 2012 Glasgow Business Awards, walking away with the top accolade in two separate categories at the Chamber organised event.

The city centre-based engineering consultancy firm took the prize for International Trade and was also recognised by the event's main sponsor The Bank of Scotland as Most Outstanding Business overall.

In addition to the 15 awards contested on the evening, held in the luxurious surroundings of the city's Thistle Hotel, a special award was handed out by the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.

Loganair's recently retired chairman, Scott Grier OBE, was the recipient of the Chamber's exceptional Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr Grier was honoured for his 36 years of service to Glasgow, acting as a lifeline of connectivity with Loganair's routes to the Highlands and Islands.

Drum and percussion store Rhythm Base was awarded the coveted title in the Evening Times Category of Glasgow's Favourite Business, after receiving the most votes from members of the public. Previous businesses that have stood under this esteemed banner include Glasgow Taxis Ltd and Slaters Menswear.

Stuart Patrick, chief executive of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: "Firstly I would like to say a big thank you to our main sponsor, Bank of Scotland, who have now been backing the awards for a decade, as well as each of the category sponsors and our superb host, the Glasgow Thistle Hotel.

"Together they have helped to make the Glasgow Business Awards 2012 a major success, attracting a record number of entries - a 75% increase on 2011 - which reflects the strength, confidence and diversity of the city's business community.

"Among the many winners on the night I would like, in particular, to congratulate our 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Scott Grier OBE, who has continued to loyally serve customers all across Scotland.

"Overall, it was a night to toast each and every winner and finalist and celebrate the many Glasgow business success stories which we can all be very proud of."
