Over 90% of people go to Google first when they need to find information online. If someone typed one of your products or services into Google, would they find your business?
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a collection of techniques that can be used to help your business be found easily on a search engine when someone searches for products or services your business provides.
Many people believe that you have to be a computer scientist to be able to affect how Google ranks your website, but most of the techniques are not technical at all, and this course will show anyone who is interested how they can help their business be found on Google.
Once you understand how it works, you can have a big impact on how your website performs, and the huge advantage is that all clicks that come from Google organically are free (as opposed to paid for services like AdWords). Even if you have outsourced your SEO to an external company, it is very valuable to understand how it all works as you may find just by doing your day job you can improve your website's SEO.
This Search Engine Optimisation training session will show you what Google is looking for from your website, and will teach you how to improve the performance of your business on Google. It will be delivered without using technical jargon, and will cover:
- How the Google Search Engine works
- Researching and compiling a list of phrases you would like Google to show your website for when someone types them into Google, including tools that will help with this
- How to see how your site is doing at the moment
- Registering your site with Google through the Google Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools)
- Checking for basic setup issues
- What to write on your website to help Google understand what you offer
- The importance of links
- How to monitor success for SEO
This session is aimed at anyone who would like to improve how their site performs on Google. No prior technical knowledge is required. Alternatively, if you are hoping to outsource your SEO to an agency, this course will be valuable in ensuring you work constructively with the agency, and monitor their results effectively. By the end of the course you will feel confident that you understand what Google is looking for in a website, and will know how to check to see how your site is doing. You will go away with a list of things you can do to improve your site's performance on search engines.
If you would like to bring a laptop along to the session, please feel free to do so as you may find it useful to be able to check how you can implement some of the techniques on your own website.
