Glasgow Chamber of Commerce embarked on their ‘Make it in Milan’ trade mission last week following up on their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and partnership with the British Chamber of Commerce Italy (BCCI). The Glasgow delegation led by Deputy President, Jim McHarg and Deputy CEO, Richard Muir took a number of businesses to the Northern Italian cities of Milan of Bergamo and were hosted by their counterparts at the BCCI including their President Daniel Shillito and Secretary General Aaron Pugliesi as well as the HM Consul General, Tim Flear. The initiative is supported by the Scottish Government and Scottish Chambers of Commerce.
Scottish companies including Envira Products, Weir Group, Nu Blvck, Holland & Sherry and the Scottish Textiles Centre took part in the mission and met both local companies keen to assist the Scots with their export and international trade aspirations as well as senior directors of the BCCI, Department for International Trade and the Confartigianto which is a well-resourced Chamber of Commerce specialising in Italian family and artisan businesses including engineering, textiles food and drink and furniture companies.
Initial feedback from the mission has been extremely positive from the participating companies which are now in the follow up stage. The MOU between Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and the BCCI is ongoing and a further trade mission back to Italy is being planned for 2018.
