Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will base a further aircraft at Glasgow Airport and launch two new routes as part of the airline’s summer 2019 plans.
The announcement marks another hugely expanded summer programme from Jet2.com’s Glasgow base - the biggest in Scotland - and demonstrates the airline’s continued commitment to the airport.
As part of a busy summer 2019 schedule Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will introduce two weekly services to Kos and Naples, taking the airline’s total number of sun and city destinations from Glasgow to 33. The airline will also introduce an additional 90,000 seats across its Glasgow Airport-based destination network.
The expanded programme means an additional Boeing 737-800 aircraft will come into the fleet at Glasgow Airport, taking the number of based aircraft to seven. On the back of this growth, new jobs will be created in cabin crew, flight deck and ground operations positions at the base.
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “We are putting our biggest-ever summer programme on sale from Glasgow Airport, with two brand new destinations and 950,000 seats going on sale for Summer 19.
“The addition of a Boeing 737-800 aircraft represents another huge investment in our base here, and gives local holidaymakers even more choice and flexibility with our award winning airline and tour operator.
“Yet another summer of growth here at Glasgow Airport is only possible thanks to our loyal customers, and it shows that our hard work in offering them great value package holidays and family friendly flights is working.”
Glasgow Airport’s commercial director Francois Bourienne said: “Jet2.com’s decision to create jobs through the basing of an additional aircraft at Glasgow Airport is welcome news.
“The move not only strengthens our position as Jet2.com’s largest Scottish base with seven aircraft, but with a total of 33 destinations to choose from next summer the airline will serve more routes than any other individual carrier from Glasgow Airport.
“The introduction of an additional 90,000 seats on a number of hugely-popular services next summer also underlines Jet2.com’s commitment to delivering even more choice and flexibility for our passengers.
“Both Kos and Naples are very popular destinations with Scottish holidaymakers and it is great to see the airline continually respond to increased passenger demand by adding these routes to its ever-growing destination list.”
