This week we’re celebrating the iconic business, Tunnock's.
The well-known confectionary brand and firm favourite of those with a sweet-tooth across Scotland has been in business since 1890, when Thomas Tunnock opened a bakery in Uddingston.
Now an international brand, the company is led by chairman and managing director, Boyd Tunnock - Thomas’s grandson. At 85 years of age, Boyd continues to work on the day-to-day operations of the company, arriving at the factory every morning at 7am with his daughter and son-in-law.
Boyd’s accomplishments in business have earned him an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration from Glasgow Caledonian University, and a Fellowship Award for services to Lanarkshire. He also holds an MBE for services to exports and a CBE for services to charity.
He will speak at Glasgow Chamber of Commerce’s Made in Glasgow event on May 18, which takes place in The Studio Venue Company.
Made in Glasgow is based on the principle that all businesses no matter the sector, age or success have valuable experience to offer advice to their peers.
The event is sponsored by The Studio, and will also feature talks from Lisa Lawson, founder of Dear Green Coffee Roasters, Michael Bergson, owner and director of Soho and Bucks Bar, and Matt Wardrop, client relationship manager of Kissing with Confidence.
