Leading telecommunications specialist Exchange Communications welcomed a Dunoon student to its Scottish headquarters for a week of hands-on industry experience.
Julia Banas 20 is one of three City of Glasgow College students to win a prized placement at the firm, which sponsors the college’s Computer Networking programme at SCQF level 7 and 8.
Through its partnership, Exchange Communications – which has offices in Glasgow, Aberdeen and London – is providing unique industry insights for students through on-site work experience, guest speaker slots, and the donation of equipment.
Julia said: “I’ve learned all about the telecoms industry in my placement, both on site and off site. Not only did I help build Avaya IP Office system, but I also got the chance to join engineers on a client visit to perform a health check on its client telephony system.
“It was such a great challenge and I feel very excited about the future.”
Speaking about the partnership, Exchange Communications’ Managing Director, Tom Sime said: “We were very impressed with Julia’s attitude to, and aptitude for, the work she was undertaking with us, and we hope she’ll take valuable practical learnings back to assist her in completing her studies.
“Our ongoing partnership with the City of Glasgow College has huge potential to attract talented young students like Julia into telecommunications, significantly enriching the industry’s talent pool, and we’re looking forward to developing our relationship with the college further in the months and years ahead.”
Julia’s fellow students Aiden and Mike also took up placements within the business in the last 12 months.
Exchange Communications was established in 1990 and has become one of the most successful and largest independent telecommunications companies in the UK.
A Scottish exporting success story, the company offers telecoms equipment and expertise to over 100 countries on every continent and more than half of its work is overseas.
