BizSpace, the UK’s largest provider of flexible workspace with offices and workshops across Britain, has officially opened its first co-working space in Glasgow.
BizSpace has invested over £500,000 to refurbish The Pentagon Centre in Glasgow. Stretching over 146,773 square ft, the building is 120 years old with the revamped site open to the public to view on the 5th of December. Originally converted from an old whisky bond, the building has been updated to include a new reception area, café and modern meeting rooms on all four floors. Recognising the demand for co-working space in Glasgow, BizSpace has created a ‘coworking village’ for workers to use flexibly as and when needed. The site is easily accessible and just a short walk from Glasgow train station. Located in the city centre, the office is next to the River Clyde and is a short walk from shops, restaurants and community facilities.
In a recent report carried out by MoneySuperMarket, Glasgow was voted the 7th best location in the UK for co-working. Flexible licenses and shared workspaces are a cost-effective way to start and grow a business, entrepreneurs and small business owners need access to a strong network and working community. Most small business like to work for themselves, not by themselves.
The upgraded interior has been completed by Territory Design, a BizSpace customer in Altrincham, who specialise in modernising and retaining the unique features of buildings. Rische Group, a construction company based in Manchester, supported Territory Design to bring the design to life and restore its original character. Interior signage and wall messaging was created by Douglas Signs and Navigator Signage. All of the unique features of The Pentagon Centre have been retained to keep the personality of this heritage building.
BizSpace supports small businesses across the UK and aims to create a strong community by bringing together local businesses and entrepreneurs to help them grow and develop.
Yvonne MacDermid OBE, Chief Executive of Money Advice Scotland, has been a BizSpace customer for 18 years, hosting client, partner and meetings with potential funders.
Speaking of the refurbishment, Yvonne said:
“I am really pleased with the refurbishment, it looks fantastic and is now a great working environment for start-ups and entrepreneurs. The space is modern, interesting and one to be proud of; it’s ideal for hosting client and partner meetings.”
Gareth Evans, Chief Executive of BizSpace said:
“I am thrilled we have extended our offering and opened the site in Glasgow. Small businesses are the backbone of the UK and there are some fantastic success stories playing out across the regions.
“SMEs are resilient, achieving faster growth over the last seven years compared to the UK economy as a whole. We want to support them as much as we can, be part of their journey, and watch them continue to do some great things over the coming years. Glasgow has a thriving entrepreneurial community and we look forward to providing it with a home through this exceptional co-working space.”
