Sell out shows for catwalk creations

Yesterday (Thursday 31 May), over 60 students from Glasgow Clyde College’s fashion and textiles courses revealed their design collections during three sold out fashion shows.

As part of their final assessment before graduating, the students hosted the three shows across the day and night showcasing their designs and outfits to 800 guests, including industry representatives, VIPs, family and friends, the public and 180 school pupils considering studying fashion or textiles.

Held at the Garment Factory in Glasgow city centre, second year students from HND Fashion Design, Fashion Technology, Fashion Textiles and BA Textiles presented their work and watched backstage as international models wore their designs on the catwalk.

Glasgow Clyde College is the only Scottish institution to deliver HND Fashion Design and HND Fashion Technology with graduates achieving great success at top name brands and fashion houses including Calvin Klein, H&M, Top Man and Stella McCartney.

Theresa Lindsay, Head of Curriculum Fashion, Textiles and Design at Glasgow Clyde College, said: “We are so proud of our students and all their hard work that has gone into creating their collections and organising the end of year shows. The live shows provide them with a chance to show off their designs and exhibit their concepts and outfits to industry representatives, VIPs, the public and their family and friends.

“Working in this type of environment, under pressure and to tight timescales gives the students a taste of what it is like to be part of the professional textiles and fashion industry.

“Many of them will now graduate and move on to some of the prestigious fashion and art schools across the country, such as Glasgow School of Art, DJCAD, Gray’s School of Art, Heriot Watt and London College of Fashion. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to seeing their inevitable success!”

Applications are open for all Glasgow Clyde College’s fashion and textile courses starting in August 2018.
