The Glasgow Distillery Company is toasting success after their Makar’s Original Dry Gin was awarded Best UK Gin and Best Traditional Gin at the prestigious Gin Guide Awards 2018.
The news comes just weeks after the company’s limited edition 1770 whiskey sold out within two weeks of its release. The distillery also recently secured £6 million in investment from private investments and the Clydesdale Bank, which is expected to enable the distillery to double its whisky production in 2017 to one million bottles per year.
The company, founded by Liam Hughes, Mike Hayward and Ian MacDougall in 2012, is Glasgow’s first independent single malt distillery in more than 100 years, with Makar the first gin to have been distilled in the city.
Head Judge and Editor of The Gin Guide, Paul Jackson said: "The Gin Guide Awards is an independent celebration of our historic, diverse, and growing spirits category and the exceptional products, distilleries, and people within it across the world.
"The quality and diversity of entries is true testament to the gin industry and how it continues to grow and be embraced on a global level."
