It has been a fantastic year for Glasgow in what is widely regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the business tourism industry.
Glasgow was named the UK’s Best Convention Bureau for a record-breaking 12th consecutive year at the Meeting & Incentive Travel (M&IT) Awards. We received the Gold award ahead of NewscastleGateshead Convention Bureau (Silver) and Liverpool Convention Bureau (Bronze).
In addition, the University of Strathclyde’s Technology and Innovation Centre was crowned the UK’s Best Academic Venue and the Scottish Event Campus received Silver in the Best UK Conference Centre category.
This suite of awards reinforces the city’s reputation as the UK’s conference capital and underpins our reputation as one of the world’s leading conference cities.
Since the city first won the title in 2007, we have worked with a number of industry-wide partners to deliver over £1.1 billion worth of business to Glasgow. Business Tourism is a key pillar of the city’s Tourism and Visitor Plan to 2023, and with business on our books to 2022 and bids in planning as far out as 2026, Glasgow’s capability and credibility in the global conventions market is stronger than ever before – and this award ensures we will continue to grow from a position of strength.
Through continued innovation and collaboration, Glasgow Convention Bureau will continue to drive the city’s competitive advantage; delivering a clear message to the meetings industry that Glasgow is a successful and thriving conference destination.
The city’s unrivalled success is testimony to the outstanding partnership working that exists right across our conventions sector – from VisitScotland, the SEC and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, our five universities and the wider business community including Greater Glasgow Hotels Association, Glasgow Restaurant Association, Glasgow Taxis and ScotRail, to name but a few.
We could not have achieved this without your support and the warm welcome you give to the delegates who come to Glasgow!
