The new relationship sees City of Glasgow College extend its global reach to Indonesia where it will deliver Professional Cookery courses from NC to HNC and HND level.
Carla Gethin, Head of Business Development and Industry Academies at City of Glasgow College, said:
“A key purpose of the partnership will be to share knowledge, experience and best practice between our two organisations and countries to meet the needs of our learners, staff, local employers and wider stakeholders. Our joint programme will support BTP’s ambitions for developing and growing tourism in Batam and its neighbouring islands.”
Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive at City of Glasgow College, said:
“This is a first for our college in Indonesia and for Batam Tourism Polytechnic in Scotland. It is one of a number of ambitious programmes which sees our flagship college continuing to expand our delivery of courses overseas which includes health care, supply chain and logistics and business skills.”
Starting in September 2018, the Professional Cookery course at NC level will be open not just to BTP students but to anyone who is at least 16 years old, including high school graduates. The aim is to improve skills and address gaps within the tourism industry in Batam, particularly the provision of catering services and culinary management.
Amanda Davis, Curriculum Head of Food, City of Glasgow College, said:
“The NC level course will run for five months after which successful students will receive their National Certificate and have the option to progress to HNC then HND level. Class numbers will be set at 24 and graduates from BTP will also have the opportunity to continue their education at City of Glasgow College.”
Batam is a small island off the coast of Singapore, part of the Riau Archipelago of Indonesia. Batam Tourism Polytechnic is a Centre for Excellence for Tourism.
