First Glasgow has today announced over £4 million of investment in ultra-low emission vehicles for South Lanarkshire.
21 ultra-low emission double decker buses, which are part funded by the latest round of Transport Scotland’s Green Bus Fund and built by Falkirk-based Alexander Dennis Limited, will offer customers an improved travel experience, with each bus providing extra comfortable seating, USB charging points, free WIFI and, most importantly, a cleaner eco-friendlier journey, thanks to the very latest Euro VI engine technology.
The new buses, the first of which were unveiled in Rutherglen, will be used on service 18, which operates between Glasgow and East Kilbride via Bridgeton, Dalmarnock, Rutherglen, Burnside and Cathkin.
Graeme Macfarlan, Commercial Director for First Bus said: “These new buses represent a significant investment of over £4 million in our Service 18 route. Each vehicle comes with comfortable e-leather seating, USB charging sockets and free wi-fi, however most importantly, they’re fitted with the very latest ultra-low emission technology, making them cleaner to run and kinder to the environment. We hope that our investment will delight our regular customers, as well as attracting new customers who may now see this as the perfect time to give bus a try.”
Linda Fabiani, MSP for East Kilbride constituency, said: “I am delighted that these new buses will run on the number 18 route through East Kilbride.” She added: “Energy efficient and a comfortable journey for passengers – First Bus are to be commended for this investment.”
Clare Haughey, MSP for Rutherglen Constituency, added: “It was great to see the service 18 new vehicles on display recently at Tesco Rutherglen. I was impressed, as were many of the Tesco shoppers who also climbed on board to view the bus, with the new comfortable seating, free Wi-Fi and phone charging points, I am looking forward to seeing them out in service.” She added: “This is a major investment by FirstBus, which will provide 21 brand new low emission buses on this key route between Glasgow City Centre and East Kilbride, via Rutherglen and Burnside.”
