11th September 2018: Kate Spade New York, the international fashion and lifestyle accessory retailer is to open its first high street boutique outside London in Glasgow’s award-winning shopping and leisure destination, Princes Square.
The boutique, which is expected to open in Spring 2019, will be the first in Europe, and only the second in the world, to be fitted out with the brand’s new design concept. The first was opened in the Westfarms mall in Farmington, Connecticut, USA in June 2018.
Kate Spade New York, a favourite with singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has over 140 retail shops and outlet stores across the United States and more than 175 shops internationally.
Founded by the late Kate Brosnahan Spade in 1993, Kate Spade New York was bought by the handbag brand Coach, now known by its corporate name Tapestry, in 2017.
The new 1,800 sqft boutique will complement other high quality fashion brands like Belstaff, Vivienne Westwood, Space NK, Reiss, Karen Millen and COS based at Princes Square.
Redevco acquired Princes Square in 2007 and has developed it every year since to become a modern and attractive retail destination for Glasgow. Andrew Foulds, Portfolio Director for Redevco said: “Kate Spade New York is one of the most aspirational brands in the retail sector and is a perfect brand to complement our offering in Princes Square. Being the first outlet in Europe, and only the second in the world, to have its new retail concept is extremely exciting and recognises the marketing and leasing focus on providing a clustered aspirational tenant mix in an Award winning environment.
“Over the last 30 years Princes Square has lead the city in attracting many premium fashion, lifestyle and leisure brands including the boutique cinema operator Everyman which will open its first Scottish outlet here later this year.”
With over 25 retailers and 12 eateries, Princes Square is Glasgow’s premier shopping destination. Located in the heart of the city’s bustling Buchanan Street, the mall provides a shopping haven to lovers of high street and designer fashion, beauty, jewellery, homewares and lifestyle brands while its wide range of bars, restaurants and cafes offers something for every palate.
Princes Square was named as Scotland’s Favourite Building in a public vote held by the Royal Incorporation of Architects as part of the RIAS’s Festival of Architecture 2016 recognising Scotland’s Top 100 buildings from 1916 to 2015.
