College Principal honoured by Royal Society of Edinburgh

Paul Little, founding Principal and Chief Executive of City of Glasgow College, has become a Fellow of the RSE, Scotland’s National Academy. 

This appointment comes as the RSE announce 62 new Fellows from the worlds of business, science, creative arts, health, technology, law, public engagement and international development. 

He joins a distinguished group of individuals which includes the Director of V&A Dundee, the Professor of Molecular Genetics at the Hubrecht Institute, and the General Music Director for Deutsche Oper in Berlin. 

As a Fellow of the RSE, Principal Little will give his time and expertise for free to support the aim of the society which is to contribute to the social, cultural and economic wellbeing of Scotland through the advancement of learning and useful knowledge. He said: 

“I am delighted to have been made a Fellow of this prestigious Society which aims to enable Scotland to contribute significantly to addressing the global challenges facing humanity. 

“While this is undoubtedly a personal honour for me, it is equally an award that recognises the impact our college is having as a powerhouse of technical and professional skills education and training. It endorses our pioneering role in bringing about a new future for college education and in boosting the economy and delivering for Scotland, and is very much a collective pat on the back.” 

Commenting on the new Fellows, President of the RSE, Professor Dame Anne Glover, said: 

“The calibre of our Fellows never ceases to amaze me and this year is no different. For such a small country we surpass ourselves with the talent and expertise that exists across our academic, cultural and business landscape. All of our Fellows are assets, not just to the RSE but to Scotland and the rest of the world, and I look forward to welcoming and working with them.” 

A Harvard Business School graduate and distinguished academic, Principal Little brings a wealth of experience in tertiary sector transformation, curriculum innovation, change management and performance excellence. He is amongst the UK’s foremost Thought Leaders. For over 30 years he has successfully led and reshaped five UK colleges, including the pioneering merger, in 2010, of Glasgow’s specialist colleges into a £228 million super campus. City of Glasgow College is now one of Scotland’s top performing colleges and holds the Number One college ranking for WorldSkills UK.
