The Macallan has produced an epic new video detailing the challenge of sourcing sherry casks after a change in regulations from the Spanish Government.
The edict meant sherry had to be bottled in Spain rather than exported in bulk, effectively curtailing the traditional cask supply to the Scotch whisky industry.
While other whisky distillers took the easy way and started sourcing from elsewhere , The Macallan went down the brave and costly route of having its own sherry casks manufactured and matured over a five year period in Spain – vital to retaining the unique taste.
The video goes on to showcase Macallan’s stunning new £140m distillery and visitor experience located at Easter Elchies estate on Speyside.
