SCC responds to the Chancellor’s comment on post-Brexit regulation

Responding to the Chancellor’s comment that there will be no regulatory alignment with the EU after Brexit, reported in an interview with the Financial Times today, Dr Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce said:

“Businesses in Scotland all have differing views and requirements when it comes to future trading arrangements but we are agreed that these need clarified quickly. We are prepared to be pragmatic about coming changes to regulation. However, uncertainty around the extent of divergence risks firms moving their production elsewhere.

“We urge the UK government to clearly communicate these changes in a timely way and provide substantial support to help firms adapt - ensuring it reaches all parts of the UK. Otherwise companies will struggle to make the most of new opportunities as Britain sets its own trading polices.”
