Scullion LAW are delighted to strengthen their Family LAW team with the appointment of Senior Associate Nicola Buchanan.

Scullion LAW are delighted to be a 2021 Legal 500 UK listed law firm and in 2020 the family law team, led by Judith Higson finalised for a national legal award. The team continues to grow from strength to strength with the recent appointment of Senior Associate Nicola Buchanan from BLM to Scullion LAW, early March 2021.

Background

Nicola worked for 17 years at Turnbull McCarron, attending court daily. She then moved to BLM Solicitors for 7 years before moving to Scullion LAW. She has been practising exclusively in the field of family law since 2005.

Nicola specialises in divorce, financial provision, cohabitation, contact /residence disputes and relocation cases as well as the preparation and negotiation of Minutes of Agreements. Nicola has particular experience in complex financial provision cases and in highly acrimonious contact and residence disputes. She has extensive court experience and is an Accredited Mediator and fully trained Collaborative Lawyer. In addition to this she is a Committee Member of Consensus Scotland and a Member of the Family Law Association.

Judith Higson head of the Family Law team at Scullion LAW comments “Nicola has extensive legal experience and knowledge. She is highly regarded within the profession and an excellent addition to our Family LAW team here at Scullion LAW. I look forward to working closely with Nicola to continue delivering an excellent service to our new and existing clients. I believe that an exciting journey lies ahead for us both.

These are exceptionally busy times for our family department. Throughout the pandemic, demand for our services has increased significantly and I feel confident with Nicola by my side that together we can continue to achieve more. We are doing all we can to support, advise and guide clients who are struggling during these unprecedented times and we have also partnered up with a support network of coaches, therapists and counsellors to aid our clients who need someone to talk to. I look forward to introducing Nicola to each of them. More details of our support network can be found on our website”.

Expansion within Scullion LAW

The appointment of Nicola Buchanan follows a long list of recent hires. Scullion LAW have strengthened the foundations of the firm, with the non-executive appointment of John Morrish as Finance Director (February 2021). John has been working with the firm in an advisory capacity for over 2 years. In addition to this, due to an unprecedented increase in demand for legal services over the last 12 months, Scullion LAW have added to their court department by welcoming Solicitor Advocate Urfan Dar to the Criminal Team from Aamer Anwar & CO (January 2020), Associate Anna Mackay from Bridge Litigation (November 2020), Solicitor Lucy Mckenna (December 2020) from Paterson Bell and criminal paralegal, Hazel Rodden from DWF (March 2020).

Nicholas Scullion, Managing Director of Scullion LAW quotes “2020 was a scary year on so many levels. I for one got struck down with severe Covid-19 complications early March 2020 and within 24 hours my world changed. It was terrifying. As I sat contemplating an uncertain future in the Queen Elizabeth hospital I realised very quickly that in order for our business to survive we needed to pull together tighter than ever before, streamline our processes and pivot quickly. Our amazing team not only survived but by working together in my absence really thrived. I am so very proud of them all and as we are not out of the pandemic yet – we continue to take each step at a time. Our business continues to grow and despite an increased demand for our services, our levels of care have not diminished. We have been voted #1 law firm in Glasgow for the second month running by valued clients. You can read our reviews here. In order to continue delivering excellent service, we are recruiting high quality legal professionals to join our expanding team”.
