Scottish Government Asylum Pilot

The Scottish Government is currently developing a pilot proposal which would allow a cohort of asylum seekers the right to work in Scotland, which will be submitted to the Home Office for consideration later this year. The pilot proposal is currently being developed by an external working group comprised of a range of third sector organisations and local authorities.

As part of this process, the Scottish Government is also keen to engage with employers across a range of potential key sectors to help inform the design of the pilot model. This engagement will be in the form of a meeting that will take place in September, date TBC.

If helpful for further context, the development of the pilot proposal is underpinned by the following report, which was published by the Scottish Government’s independent Expert Advisory Group on Migration and Population: Asylum seekers - extending the right to work: evaluation, analysis, and policy options

If you are interested in being involved or if you have any further questions with regards to this work, please contact population@gov.scot by 26 August.
