As the Managing Director of Bell & Swift, a young company specialising in branded hotel design, Dawn was looking for an opportunity which would help her take the next steps to develop her business when she came across the Help to Grow management programme at the University of Strathclyde.
With her enterprise reaching its fifth birthday, Dawn felt it was the ideal time to embark on an experience which would teach her new skills, to the benefit of her business.
As well as feeling the positive effects of learning from others’ experiences thanks to its peer learning-based structure, Dawn says that her involvement in the Help to Grow management programme has helped give her a more defined vision of her company’s direction, as well as how to achieve this.
“Personally, it has been fantastic for me and has made me much more self-aware of my leadership style and where I can improve’, she explains. ‘The programme has given me a fresh perspective in terms of how to define and implement our mission, vision and values as well as establishing our leadership team.”
Dawn says that following the programme, her company’s leadership team has seen improved operational efficiency, with individual roles and responsibilities becoming more well-defined.
Such as Dawn’s success that her husband and fellow Director, Craig, is now participating in the current iteration of the Help to Grow programme, giving the duo an opportunity to compare experiences and perspectives and explore all the possible trajectories for their company’s growth.
