What is the impact of the budget on Glasgow City Region?

The Glasgow City Region Intelligence Hub has summarised the key policy announcements from the Autumn Budget and their impact on businesses and households in Glasgow City Region. The budget comes with well publicised fiscal measures - mainly the rise in employer National Insurance Contributions. As well as outlining the key elements, this briefing analyses what this may mean for the Region’s business base, employees in lower paid sectors and unemployment levels.

Despite the major tax changes, continued investment in services and projects will require a boost in productivity. The budget also confirms the integrated settlement arrangements for some English City Regions. Such measures will allow these regions to take a targeted approach to meeting their local challenges and opportunities to drive productivity and build more inclusive economies. Ensuring Glasgow City Region is not left behind, it is crucial that the Region is given the levers to invest in evidence based programmes that meet our local needs. That means building on the opportunities offered through City Deal investment, supporting our Foundational Economy, and helping our Innovation Clusters to thrive.
