The Glasgow Business Awards 2026 take place tomorrow and celebrate achievements across the city’s business community - including organisations putting sustainability at the heart of their operations.
Sponsored by ScottishPower, the Green Champion Award recognises businesses taking meaningful action, from reducing waste and emissions to supporting biodiversity and creating more sustainable communities. Let’s meet this year’s nominees who represent a diverse range of Glasgow businesses and organisations, each demonstrating how environmental action can be embedded into everyday operations.
Dear Green Coffee Roasters is a specialty coffee roaster and certified B Corporation with ethical sourcing and sustainability at the heart of its business. Its innovative reusable wholesale system has prevented more than 60,000 single-use bags from being used since 2016, while its transition to 100% renewable electricity has saved more than 4,000kg of CO₂ emissions.
The business is also working towards a fully electric fleet and supports environmental and social causes through its 1% for the Planet commitments. Its work extends into the wider community too, including planting 12,000 native trees at Bute Community Forest and supporting the 2050 Climate Group’s work with young climate leaders.
Hillfoot & Paws is a Scottish family business creating durable pet products inspired by slow fashion principles. Sustainability is built into its approach, from refillable products and responsible manufacturing to repair and reuse.
More than 5,000 recycled plastic bottles have been repurposed into its Country Canine ECO collection, while fabric offcuts are turned into collars and leads rather than going to waste. Its recently launched Dog Bed Repair Service also encourages customers to repair and reuse products rather than replace them.
Hope in Place CIC is a community-led organisation working to make Glasgow greener, more resilient and more connected. Focusing on nature-based solutions, plans include the creation of a network of rain garden parklets that can help manage surface water, increase biodiversity and provide welcoming spaces for education and community activity.
The organisation also works collaboratively with partners including Civic, the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow City Council, SPT, SEStran, Cycling UK and Cycling Scotland to support innovation and share learning across the city.
Kinder Handl Community Enterprise has built its social enterprise around reuse, giving donated goods a new life and keeping thousands of items out of landfill. Items that cannot be sold are passed on to charities, schools, nurseries, social work and community groups, ensuring as little as possible goes to waste.
The enterprise also creates urgent care packages for families in crisis, working with partners including Women’s Aid, food banks and the Scottish Refugee Council. Its approach combines environmental action with practical support for people and communities across Glasgow.
Klearwayjunk is a waste removal business focused on responsible disposal, recycling and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill. Its approach includes separating waste streams such as metal, wood, green waste and electrical items so materials can be directed to the appropriate recycling or treatment facilities.
Klearwayjunk also uses its social channels to raise awareness of fly-tipping, illegal waste carriers and the importance of responsible waste disposal.
