Glasgow city centre is unquestionably a key asset to the region and country - it is a hub for commerce and employment; education and research; retail and entertainment; and tourism and travel.
A catalytic project identified by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce members as being critical to the future success of the city centre was to see the development of a new strategy for City Centre transport.
Glasgow City Council launched a City Centre Strategy in November 2013, a key objective included the development of a City Centre Transport Strategy.
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has attended workshops and met directly with Glasgow City Council on a number of occasions to discuss the proposed strategy and methodology. Glasgow Chamber of Commerce also requested Glasgow City Council present at a number of member forums to raise awareness and enable members to input priorities directly.
We believe that retaining Glasgow’s status as the second most significant retail centre in the UK is important to tourism and to inward investment and so we believe that attention should be paid to the existing and emerging preferences in shopper behaviour.
A draft of the consultation was published in November 2014 and the strategy’s final recommendations will be revealed in early 2015.
