George Square Redevelopment Project Update

Glasgow City Council have provided the following update on the progress of the George Square redevelopment:

"Works have progressed well along the north footway of West George Street over the past couple of months. This section is on track for completion by the end of this week, with the bus stop at the station scheduled to reopen on Monday, 27th October.

The next phase will continue along the north footway of George Square, spanning the frontage of the Millennium Hotel and George House, including Costa Coffee and The Alchemist. Completion of this phase is anticipated by 19th December.

At the City Chambers, the first phase of works between Cochrane Street and the main entrance is now complete. The second phase, extending from the entrance to George Street, is currently underway and expected to finish by 28th November. Once complete, the footway will reopen and the diversion route around the Chambers will be removed.

Within George Square itself, concrete pouring for statue bases is in progress. The conservation specialist has completed restoration of the bronze mouldings and plaques, and airblasting of the equestrian statues is now finished. Elsewhere in the square, excavations continue under archaeological supervision where required."
