To support the local business community following the Union Street fire in Glasgow city centre, we’ll be sharing the latest information and updates on the ongoing disruptions.
ScotRail
ScotRail services will not operate to or from Glasgow Central High Level until at least Wednesday (18 March), as demolition work begins at the nearby building on Union Street. Further information will be provided to customers on Monday afternoon (16 March) to outline when services will be able to return.
A full timetable of services at the station’s low level platforms, which serve routes from Cumbernauld, Whifflet, Larkhall, and Motherwell to Dalmuir, Balloch, and Milngavie, resumed on Wednesday, 11 March, and they will continue to operate.
Visit Glasgow Central Updates | ScotRail for up-to-date information.
Avanti West Coast
No Avanti West Coast trains will run from Glasgow Central until at least the end of Tuesday 17 March. Avanti West Coast trains will start and end at Motherwell, which you can reach using ScotRail services from Glasgow Central low level station or nearby stations.
The majority of trains between Scotland and London are able to run normally to/from Motherwell and Edinburgh. Our other routes, such as to Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and North Wales are unaffected by this disruption.
Ticket options:
Due to the ongoing incident in Glasgow City Centre, streets around Glasgow Central Station remain closed impacting bus services across the City as well as the wider transport network. SPT is working closely with other transport operators to monitor the situation and we advise everyone to check services with individual operators before travel.
The Subway is running as normal and limited Park and Ride facilities are still available at Shields Road.
Check out SPT X channel for the latest updates.
Caledonian Sleeper
Glasgow services are continuing to be disrupted. Caledonian sleeper is sending carriages through to join the trains in Edinburgh and have arranged a free ticket on certain ScotRail services from Glasgow To Edinburgh and vice versa for the morning.

First Bus
First Bus is accepting ScotRail tickets on its services and has also agreed ticket acceptance with the Glasgow Subway at Bridge Street and Cessnock stations. Customers travelling towards the city centre can alight near either station and continue their journey by subway.
To access the subway, customers must show a valid First Bus ticket. This can be an mTicket on the First Bus app, a paper ticket issued by the driver, or an NEC card for over‑60s and under‑22s. Customers using Tap On Tap Off can show their journey transaction as proof of travel.
