Glasgow Chamber Chief Executive comments on the news that the council has backed plans to demolish the Woodside Viaduct section of the M8

Stuart Patrick CBE, Chief Executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, has provided the following comment:

"The demolition of the Woodlands Viaduct would have significant economic impact for Glasgow and wider implications for connectivity across the city. This stretch of the M8 is a critical transport corridor, providing access to key economic assets including Glasgow Airport, the SEC campus and the city centre.
"While there is recognition of the need to consider long-term infrastructure solutions and the opportunities around placemaking and regeneration, it is essential that any decision is informed by a full assessment of the economic consequences for businesses, commuters and freight movement.
"Reliable connectivity remains fundamental to economic activity, and businesses will need greater clarity on how disruption would be managed, what investment would be required and how access to key economic assets across the city region would be maintained throughout any transition."
