SOLIS is pleased to announce a new partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) to develop a cutting edge digital platform designed to redefine building maintenance, delivering smarter, more efficient, and sustainable outcomes.
The collaboration began in early 2025, following engagement between the GCU research team and SOLIS through an Innovation Voucher supported by the West of Scotland KTP Centre. Led by Octavian Niculita, Don McGlinchey, and Gordon Lindsay, the project combines connected sensor technologies with artificial intelligence to enable real-time monitoring of building assets and predictive maintenance. This proactive approach is expected to reduce downtime, prevent unplanned failures, and optimise system performance across a variety of environments, including housing associations, schools, retail spaces, and offices.
As part of the initiative, the team will utilise Digital Twin technology to create detailed virtual models of critical building systems. This will allow performance improvements to be evaluated and refined before implementation on site. Initial research will focus on five key operational systems, leveraging SOLIS’s extensive expertise in fault detection and diagnostics.
Beyond technological innovation, the partnership also fosters collaboration between academia and industry, accelerating the development of practical, data-driven solutions with real-world impact across sectors including retail, hospitality, defence, and education.
