Job Description
To safely and efficiently provide a range of facilities/handyperson services to ensure the smooth operation of the building with regards to cleaning and maintenance, whilst meeting the needs of the Maryhill Burgh Halls events programmes, external customers hiring the venue spaces and tenants, visitors and other users accessing the building. Ensuring the building environment at Maryhill Burgh Halls is conducive to the delivery of a high level of customer service and care for all visitors and users of the Halls in line with MBHT values. As our aims include promoting skills development and employment opportunities and reducing poverty in our community, we would particularly welcome applications from people with a local connection, and who would be keen to continue in the role after the initial placement period, if mutually agreeable.
Please note this is a fixed term work placement with a maximum duration of 22 weeks
Key Responsibilities
- Undertaking making good and redecoration following remedial repairs. This will include painting, and other general building type repairs.
- Undertaking general repairs to fixtures and fittings, including locks, hinges and window furniture.
- Undertaking minor plumbing repairs, e.g. unblocking sinks and toilets, adjusting taps.
- Assisting in the testing of fire alarm systems throughout the Halls. This may be daily tests, but can also require an active involvement in fire evacuation drills.
- Reading and collating gas, water and electrical meter readings on a monthly basis.
- Setting up and breaking down of rooms and event spaces for internal events and for the needs of the other external customers hiring the venue, including furniture, technical and other equipment including erecting staging.
- Check and maintain furniture, fixtures and fittings. Reporting maintenance and repair needs to management and undertaking some minor repairs, maintenance and cleaning where appropriate.
- Assisting all other trades as and when required.
- To keep the foyer, corridors and other common areas of the building swept and clean.
Essential skills, experience and qualifications
Essential
- Ability to carry out minor repairs and maintenance of a non-technical nature.
- Ability to undertake general cleaning and housekeeping tasks skilfully and responsibly
- Ability to deliver high standards of customer service
- Ability to respond positively to problem solving and changing business, strategic and operational needs
- Ability to work flexibly and to carry out any other reasonable duties in line with the post as may be required from time to time.
- Ability to operate effectively as part of a small team and get on with people of all levels.
- Ability to use own initiative and to think creatively and proactively
- Excellent time-management including managing own tasks efficiently within shift times
Desirable
- Ability to deliver event requirements, including the safe handling and organisation of furniture and other needs
- Experience of Health and Safety in a venue or public attraction environment
- Previous experience in a Customer Service role
- Knowledge of health and safety matters in a public building
- Knowledge of working within the Third, Arts or Heritage sectors
- Good understanding of MBHT and a strong interest in supporting its Aims and Objectives
- Health and safety related qualifications, including First Aid, Manual Handling and COSHH training
Number of Hours Per Week 25 hours per week for 22 weeks
Working pattern and contracted hours (including any shift patterns)
Monday to Friday, 9am – 2.30pm (including half an hour unpaid lunch break each day)
Wages
Salary will be paid monthly and will be £12.60 per hour

Details of Training Provided
We will provide full induction training related to the role, including health and safety and manual handling training. The applicant will be supported by our small team, and will join our weekly operational team meetings, as well as having a weekly one to one with their manager. We will also provide Fire Marshall and Legionella Awareness training and, if they remain with us beyond the initial placement period, Emergency First Aid at Work. If they were to become a permanent member of the team, they would have a CPD plan that would co-created with them and reviewed quarterly, alongside a quarterly KPI and progression review.
