Essential inspections on the M8, south of Glasgow Airport, commence Monday 10 March 2025

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential inspections on the M8 at White Cart Viaduct, between Junctions 27 and 28, from Monday 10th March until Wednesday 26th March 2025 between the hours of 8pm and 6am each weeknight. 

This work will take place as follows:

Monday 10th March to Thursday 13th March

There will be overnight bridge inspections on the westbound M8 carriageway from Monday 10th March until Thursday 13th March from 8pm to 6am each night. This will involve westbound lane closures between the Junction 27 on-slip and the Junction 28 off-slip, as well as a closure of the Junction 27 westbound on-slip. Traffic will be diverted via Renfrew Road, Arkleston Road, the eastbound M8 Junction 27 on-slip, the Junction 26 eastbound off-slip, Hillington Interchange roundabout and the M8 Junction 26 westbound on-slip, where this diversion will end. 

Friday 14th March

On this night, there will be a closure of White Cart Road, between Sanderling and Campsie Drive, on Friday 14th March between 8pm and 3:30am and westbound M8 carriageway lane closures between Junction 27 on-slip and the Junction 28 off-slip from 8pm to 6am. Southbound White Cart Road traffic will be diverted via Sanderling Road, Abbotsinch Road, Arran Avenue and Campsie Drive. Northbound White Cart Road traffic will be diverted via St Andrew’s Drive and Sanderling Road. Junction 27 on-slip traffic will be diverted via Renfrew Road, Arkleston Road, the eastbound M8 Junction 27 on-slip, the Junction 26 eastbound off-slip, Hillington Interchange roundabout and the M8 Junction 26 westbound on-slip, where this diversion will end.

Monday 17th March

On this night, there will be closure of Abbotsinch Road, between Sanderling and Arran Avenue, on Monday 17th March from 8pm until 5am and westbound M8 carriageway lane closures between Junction 27 on-slip and the Junction 28 off-slip from 8pm to 6am. Abbotsinch Road traffic will be diverted via Sanderling Road, White Cart Road, Campsie Drive and Arran Avenue. Junction 27 on-slip traffic will be diverted via Renfrew Road, Arkleston Road, the eastbound M8 Junction 27 on-slip, the Junction 26 eastbound off-slip, Hillington Interchange roundabout and the M8 Junction 26 westbound on-slip, where this diversion will end.

Tuesday 18th March to Friday 21st March

There will then be overnight bridge inspections on the eastbound M8 carriageway from Tuesday 18th March until Friday 21st March from 8pm until 6am each night. This will involve eastbound lane closures between the M8 Junction 29 on-slip and the M8 Junction 27 off-slip, as well as a closure of the Junction 28 eastbound on-slip. Traffic will be diverted via Sanderling Road, St James Interchange and the M8 eastbound Junction 29 on-slip, where this diversion will end. There will also be a closure of the eastbound Junction 28A on-slip, and traffic will be diverted via the eastbound Junction 29 off-slip to St James Interchange and the Junction 29 on-slip, where this diversion will end.

Monday 24th March

On this night, there will be a closure of White Cart Road, between Sanderling and Campsie Drive, on Monday 24th March between 8pm and 3:30am and eastbound lane closures between the M8 Junction 29 on-slip and the M8 Junction 27 off-slip, as well as a closure of the Junction 28 eastbound on-slip. Southbound White Cart Road traffic will be diverted via Sanderling Road, Abbotsinch Road, Arran Avenue and Campsie Drive. Northbound White Cart Road traffic will be diverted via St Andrew’s Drive and Sanderling Road. Junction 28 eastbound on-slip traffic will be diverted via Sanderling Road, St James Interchange and the M8 eastbound Junction 29 on-slip, where this diversion will end. There will also be a closure of the eastbound Junction 28A on-slip, and traffic will be diverted via the eastbound Junction 29 off-slip to St James Interchange and the Junction 29 on-slip, where this diversion will end.

Tuesday 25th March

On this night, there will be a closure of Abbotsinch Road, between Sanderling and Arran Avenue, on Tuesday 25th March from 8pm until 5am and eastbound lane closures between the M8 Junction 29 on-slip and the M8 Junction 27 off-slip, as well as a closure of the Junction 28 eastbound on-slip.  Abbotsinch Road traffic will be diverted via Sanderling Road, White Cart Road, Campsie Drive and Arran Avenue. Junction 28 eastbound on-slip traffic will be diverted via Sanderling Road, St James Interchange and the M8 eastbound Junction 29 on-slip, where this diversion will end. There will also be a closure of the eastbound Junction 28A on-slip, and traffic will be diverted via the eastbound Junction 29 off-slip to St James Interchange and the Junction 29 on-slip, where this diversion will end.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by informing future carriageway improvement works in this area.
