Glasgow Taxis Ltd is the only public transport provider in the city which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 (or 366!) days a year.
Formed in 1997 from a merger of Glasgow's major taxi companies, Glasgow Taxis Ltd is a Friendly Society company and the largest black taxi organisation in the UK, outside London. It represents more than 2,000 drivers of almost 1,000 black cabs working the city streets (of which there are approx 1,500).
Based in a new £1.8 Taxi Operations Hub near the 2014 Games site, Glasgow Taxis Ltd's recent investments include a new iPhone app, state-of-the-art IT despatch systems, plus automatic phone and online booking systems.
All Glasgow Taxis Ltd vehicles offer full disabled access and the cabs themselves are subject to regular inspections by Glasgow City Council and The Taxi Enforcement Unit. All drivers are covered by Full Enhanced Disclosure Scotland.
Glasgow Taxis Ltd plays a major role in the safety of Glasgow's streets, through initiatives such as stewarded "Nite Zones" at Gordon Street, Sauchiehall Street, Albion Street and Byres Road. It also has a longstanding CSR commitment supporting causes such as The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice.
