A new stage in the George Square project is now taking place after the submission of a planning application for the redevelopment of Glasgow’s most important civic space: George Square.
From the very start of the redevelopment/redesign process, the people of Glasgow have been engaged with and their voices and opinions have helped guide the designers to develop the concept design.
This planning application (of the developed concept design) provides one more opportunity for the communities around George Square and the people of Glasgow to have their say in the design process. The council’s planning team will also carry out necessary checks to make sure that the new proposal complies with all relevant local and national planning policies. As you know, there are aspects of the Square that have major heritage and historical significance, so this application will also be reviewed by Historic Environment Scotland at the same time.
Comments will be accepted for a period of 28 days from the date of issue of neighbour notification or until the statutory period has elapsed, whichever is longer.
Comments on the George Square proposal can also be made at any time after the application can be seen on the Planning Portal using the contact form on the dedicated project website: https://www.ourplaceglasgow.com/get-involved/george-square
The project is funded (like the rest of the Avenues programme in the city centre) through the Glasgow City Region City Deal, which is funded by the Scottish and UK Governments.
