Silverburn raises over £123,000 for local charities in 2023

In a landmark fundraising year for leading retail and leisure destination, Silverburn, £123,723 has been donated to Scottish charities and local community initiatives.

The centre’s herculean fundraising efforts include a long standing partnership with Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity, raising more than £81,000 last year alone, the highest amount raised by a shopping centre for the charity in 2023.

Through this partnership, Silverburn introduced the hugely popular Flamingo Beach during the summer months with all income going to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. The family friendly beach event attracted over 20,000 visitors and raised a staggering £41,000 during its eight-week run.

Over the festive period, the centre built on this success by welcoming the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Christmas Hub. Complete with daily visits from Santa, gift wrapping, a donation drop off zone and Christmas pop up store, adding £38,493 to the fundraising pot.

Kirsten Watson, CEO of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “We’d like to send a massive thank you to every Silverburn shopper who contributed to this astonishing total over 2023.

“Throughout 2023, the centre went the extra mile for the patients we support and so we’d also like to thank Silverburn for providing the perfect platform to raise funds for children in hospital.”

Other highlights include £1,000 worth of toys being donated to Pollok based foodbank SWAMP, and 1,000 Easter chocolate carrots going to Crookston Castle Primary School and SWAMP.

In September, daredevils took a frightening plunge in a charity abseil with Cash for Kids and Clyde 1 Super Scoreboard which raised £13,000. In December, Santa dressed thrill seekers additionally made the jump in support of the Catherine McEwan Foundation, raising £10,000.

Sustainability was another key focus for the centre, donating excess clothing rails, furniture paint, wheelchairs and prams to local causes. This included the donation of seating blocks and chairs to St Paul’s High School to enhance communal spaces.

David Pierotti, General Manager of Silverburn said “It’s been a truly astounding year for our community outreach and fundraising efforts at Silverburn, which could not have been achieved without the generosity of our guests and hard work of our team. We’ve loved entertaining our guests while also raising money for such great causes.

“Our work with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and the launch of Flamingo Beach was a real highlight and we look forward to nurturing this relationship further throughout 2024, supporting Glasgow’s children when they need us most.”

The impressive fundraising total is boosted by over £16,000 worth of retail space which was donated in kind to various charities throughout the year.
