Glasgow Chamber elects new President and Deputy President

Derek Provan, the former Chief Executive of Glasgow Airport has officially been elected as the new President of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce. 

Immediate Past President Gillian Docherty OBE will remain a board member following completion of her term with Mr Provan being elected to the post at the recent AGM. 

The Glasgow native has spent his career working across various aviation roles including Managing Director of Aberdeen International Airport, Chief Operating Officer of Heathrow Airport and Director of Future Heathrow. 

He is joined by incoming Deputy President Fiona Doherty, who is Managing Director of Stagecoach West Scotland and UK Service Operations Centre. 

The two heavyweight transport leaders will spearhead the Chamber for the next two years as the city prepares to face a series of strategically important challenges and changes. 

Carol Henry, Arnold Clark; Peter Duthie, SEC; Neil Gibson, BIG Partnership; Lindsay McGarvie, Edrington and Rachel Sandison, University of Glasgow will make up the remaining members of the Board. 

Brian McClean, AGS Airports; David McClelland, Merck Group; Jennifer Phin, A.C. Whyte & Co. Ltd and George Reader, St. Enoch Centre/CBRE Group were also appointed as new directors during the AGM. 

Speaking at the AGM, the newly elected President said: “It is an incredible honour to have been elected President of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, taking the reins from Gillian who led the organisation in exemplary fashion during her term. 

“I am immensely passionate about Glasgow and the business community we have here, which despite all the economic challenges it faces, continues to innovate, adapt and grow. 

“There is no denying the city is at a crossroads with a number of significant infrastructure projects reaching milestone moments. As the voice of the business community, it is our job to ensure the city is readying itself for the future, whether that be with regards to sustainability, attracting investment or simply creating the conditions to allow businesses to thrive. 

“I am looking forward to working with the team and helping to shape and support our business community which makes Glasgow such a vibrant place to live, work and visit.” 

Stuart Patrick, Chief Executive, added: “Having two of the country’s top business and transport operators leading our organisation into what will be a critical couple of years for the city is very encouraging. 

“Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has a central role in shaping the agenda as we head into a very important time for the country. Cities are the heartbeat of our economy and as we fast approach the 850th anniversary of Glasgow City, it is essential that we gear up for what a modern city looks like, and how it is used. 

“The leadership team and I will be working with the Board to ensure that Glasgow’s voice is heard.”
