City Sightseeing Glasgow, operator of the city’s hop-on hop-off tours, has announced it is increasing the frequency of its red route to 12 minutes, in time for the summer holiday period.
The red route, which runs on electric buses, offers a convenient and eco-friendly way to discover some of Glasgow's most popular family attractions, such as the Riverside Museum, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow Cathedral and George Square.
The electrics vehicles are a £4,500,000 investment for the tour bus company and includes funding from the Scottish Government’s Scottish Zero Emission Bus (ScotZEB) Challenge Fund.
The increased frequency will start today (Friday 28 June), giving customers more flexibility and choice to plan their sightseeing itinerary. The red route will operate daily from 9:30 am to 8pm, with the last departure from stop one (George Square) at 6.30pm. Customers can buy tickets online, on board the bus, or from the City Sightseeing Glasgow team at George Square.
Tickets are valid for one or two days, and include access to its new yellow route, which serves Glasgow Science Centre, Ibrox and Celtic Stadium, Pollok Country Park, The Burrell Collection and House of an Art Lover.
Richy Graham, operations manager at City Sightseeing Glasgow, said: "We are delighted to offer our customers a more frequent and greener service on the red route, which showcases the best of Glasgow's culture, history and architecture. With a 12-minute frequency, customers can hop on and off at any of the 21 stops along the route and explore the city at their own pace.
"We hope our customers will take advantage of our new yellow tour, which offers a chance to explore more of Glasgow's hidden gems. With 19 new stops and the freedom to get on and off as you please, this tour is the perfect way to see some of the attractions that are less crowded.”
Due to road works the red route will miss stops 13, 14 and 15 until 11 July. The tour will divert through Partick and straight to stop 16 for the Kelvingrove.
To visit the University of Glasgow customers should get off at stop 16 and take the route through Kelvingrove park, along Kelvin Way and turning left at University.
