An immersive audio drama set in Glasgow
FIRST EPISODES DROP 2nd SEPTEMBER at 2PM
During lockdown, Tron Theatre Company commissioned Sound Designer and Composer Danny Krass to produce a series of sonic theatre podcasts called Earwig, working with Scottish playwrights to create six short, standalone audio dramas. This new project, The Loved One, lead once again by Danny and supported by us, has developed the Earwig concept further, with Danny working with writer Oliver Emanuel (1980-2023) on the series.
The Loved One, directed by Lu Kemp, is an immersive audio drama set in Glasgow - seven wild sound-tales by six writers designed to be listened to on headphones. Incorporating text, sound design and music, The Loved One will envelope and embrace its audience, inviting them deep into the inner world of its main character, Pink, a private investigator from L.A. who has come to Glasgow in search of her missing daughter, Billie.
How far would you go to find the person who means the most to you in all the world?” All roads have led Pink, a private investigator from LA, to Glasgow. Now she’s here, insomnia threatens to distort every clue. As reality and fiction blur, can Pink hold on to her sanity long enough to find her missing daughter and bring her home? “Glasgow. A city built of shadow and rain… My brilliant, sensitive, wild Billie, I come here for you.”
The six Scottish writers unravelling the truth across the series are Oliver Emanuel (who wrote the first and last episodes), Isla Cowan, James Ley, Lynda Radley, Owen Whitelaw and Sara Shaarawi. Sharon Duncan-Brewster takes the central role of sleep-deprived Pink, and is joined by an ensemble of Scottish acting talent including Jessica Hardwick, Karen Bartke, Talia Marwaha, Robert Jack, Matthew Zajac, Gavin Mitchell and Martin Quinn.
Danny Krass said of the project: ‘The Loved One is an anthology series, with separate styles and tones, but as you’ll discover, a character, and all manner of resonances and feelings in common. Olly, one of the most accomplished writers for audio in my opinion, and I assembled a group of writers and batted back and forth concepts that could meaningfully bind seven scripts, written separately but in consultation. At Olly’s behest, I’ve pushed myself to innovate in style, form and structure, and am very proud to be finally releasing this project.’
The podcasts will be released in three drops, Episodes 1-3 on 2nd September, Episodes 4 & 5 on 23rd September and Episode 6 & 7 on 7th October. Each episode is approximately 20 minutes long, they are free and available to listen at https://www.tron.co.uk/shows/the-loved-one/
