By David Ewing, Membership Executive
October marked the six-month anniversary of my return to Glasgow Chamber as Membership Executive after having been International Trade Co-ordinator last year before heading off to South-East Asia to travel across five amazing countries! Since returning to the Chamber, it’s been a busy six months as part of the Membership Team, with some fantastic events, insightful conferences, and meeting our inspired members.
Within the first month of re-joining the team, the events calendar was plentiful including visits to several member venues such as Citation and Topgolf. The Topgolf event in particular was enjoyable as it was a great opportunity to try out the new state-of-the-art facility with a strong networking element in a relaxed environment. Even as somebody who might need more than a few lessons to perfect their swing, this has been one of my favourite events!
The monthly ‘Wee G’ chat has quickly become one of the networking events that I look forward to the most each month. Heather and I host a relaxed, informal, and fun virtual networking session allowing our members the opportunity to connect and build relationships in a fun, dynamic way – with the help of an icebreaker question to guide the conversation. If you’ve not attended a Wee G chat yet, get along to the next one and see for yourself!
During the summer months, we launched our inaugural conference, Congress of Business, as part of the legacy of COP26 and welcomed over 400 attendees in the impressive Engine Works venue with an incredible line-up of speakers that included Thomasina Miers. Glasgow also hosted the UCI World Cycling Championships this summer, which saw 13 World Champions crowned across 11 days. Glasgow Chamber - in partnership with Glasgow Life - helped build anticipation for the Championships with the return of Glasgow House, which was fantastic to be involved in bringing this to life, celebrating such a global event.
The Glasgow Business Awards, which took place at the start of October, has undoubtedly been another highlight. It was an incredible evening that was immensely well attended and an overall great success celebrating Glasgow’s businesses and a fitting celebration of the Silver Anniversary of the awards. If the next six months are anything to go by from the previous, they should be extremely enjoyable, meeting more of our members throughout and I can’t wait to see what else is still to come.
