Why was the Paid Work Placement programme of interest to you?
As a local charity, we regularly look for opportunities to recruit and train local people in positions that they might not otherwise have access to. The Paid Work Placement allowed the bureau to create a position that is difficult to attract funding for, but crucial to the development and progression of the organization.
Why did you select your chosen candidate and how have they adapted during their placement?
Our successful candidate had been volunteering with the bureau for some time, donating his time for free to benefit the community where he lives. Since joining the bureau, his confidence has increased, his dedication and commitment have been rewarded and he is gaining invaluable skills to take him further in his career.
What support has the participant received during their work placement?
While working in the bureau the candidate has been able to access paid training opportunities, shadow advisers and learn the ins and outs of the business. They receive regular one-on-ones with their line manager for support and supervision. They also have access to a Learning and Development Co-ordinator who carries out a training needs analysis and sources training base don requirements of the candidate.
What are the participant's aspirations at the end of the placement?
The employee hopes to find suitable permanent employment either within the bureau or another organization in the same field.

Quote from participant about their placement
“My work placement at Drumchapel Citizens Advice Bureau has provided invaluable experience in developing engaging content for Facebook and Twitter. I honed my content creation skills by designing eye-catching infographics to highlight different pieces of information and my organisation's achievements. This opportunity has helped me overcome my challenges of returning to the workforce after a career break, and re-enter the workforce with renewed confidence and valuable new skills. Additionally, collaborating with diverse colleagues enriched my perspective and strengthened my teamwork abilities. The support from a development officer enabled me to establish clear goals for my job search and provided a diverse range of training opportunities to further develop my skillset. In addition, the placement has allowed me to try out other things within the organisation such as social policy which has broadened my perspective and revealed potential future career paths in advocacy.”
