Job Description

As the Social Media and Marketing Assistant, you will be part of a team delivering a positive and engaging experience for people using Sense Scotland’s digital channels: websites, social media, Mailchimp and other digital platforms. This includes contributing to the planning processes, tailoring content to suit different audiences and analysing performance to ensure best value for the organisation.

You will work on promoting Mecoco, part of Sense Scotland, a charitable enterprise which makes candles, wax melts and diffusers for sale, while also providing work experience opportunities for adults with complex disabilities as well as supporting promotion for our seasonal trading. The role would also involve supporting the wider tasks of our Communications team in sharing the experiences, achievements and views of people with complex disabilities, their families and our staff. It could also involve taking on occasional tasks within the Fundraising team to support with administration tasks or events.

Please note this placement is a work placement opportunity for the duration of 26 weeks 

Key Responsibilities

• Regularly update social media channels
• Create digital graphics for use on social media
• Capture stills or video content for use on social media
• Evaluate and analyse performance of social media output
• Engage with our followers by answering queries or supplying additional information
• Support the creation of digital content specific to Mecoco and seasonal trade items
• Update Mecoco product content and seasonal trade pages within the main website with a particular focus on Christmas
• Run, when necessary, paid social media advertising campaigns
• Maintain key messaging and consistency of tone
• Ensure content is accessible to those with communication support needs
• When required, attend in-person events

Essential skills, experience and qualifications

• High standard of written English and the ability to write for a variety of audiences
• Experience of using social media channels
• Excellent planning and organisational skills
• Experience of developing a range of content e.g. multi-media content
• Experience of interacting with people in a sensitive and compassionate manner
• Demonstratable IT skills, including Microsoft 365

Desirable

• Basic design experience, e.g. creating infographics
• Experience of using Google Analytics
• Articulate, with a creative flair both in writing and in the generating of ideas
• Experience of using scheduling platforms

• Ability to work independently and with colleagues from across the organisation  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including tailoring content for different audiences and social media platforms
• Ability to prioritise work in a demanding environment
• Excellent time-management skills
• Strong administrative skills with attention to detail
• Good interpersonal skills including the ability to develop strong relationships

Number of Hours Per Week 16 hours per week for 26 weeks

Working pattern and contracted hours (including any shift patterns)
Wednesday – Friday. 5.30hrs per day. Flexibility re working pattern will be considered
