Job Description

The Youth and Community Worker will support the delivery of activities across the Social Regeneration Team, working within its four key strands: Digital, Communities Opportunities, Youth, and Growing Spaces project.  The role involves engaging residents in local communities, supporting participation, and helping people access opportunities in each of these areas. By delivering digital one-to-ones, assisting community projects, supporting youth activities, and contributing to growing initiatives, the post holder will help residents build skills, confidence, and connections. This work directly supports Queens Cross Housing Association’s wider aim of creating strong, resilient neighbourhoods to improve the health and wellbeing of its residents.

Please note this is a fixed term role with a duration of 26 weeks 

Key Responsibilities

  • To work directly with Queens Cross Tenants and Service Users using a Community Development approach that enables active participation and empowerment in a range of activities and events.
  • To engage with children and young people to identify need within the Community.
  • To work with children and young people to enable their personal development and social education by coordinating the provision of a range of positive activities, responsive to their interests and needs.
  • To supervise children and young people at a range of groups, clubs, external trips and other activities.
  • To facilitate computing classes, one-to-one sessions, and drop-in provision, as directed by the Digital Inclusion Coordinator.
  • To assist in the delivery of basic computing advice and support to local community groups, as directed to the Digital Inclusion Coordinator.
  • To establish and build relationships with our Tenants in order to design and deliver programmes of positive and engaging activities that build their self-esteem and resilience and helps develop the ability to manage personal and social relationships – For example, Youth Clubs, Digital Inclusion, Gardening Sessions and other Community Learning Opportunities.
  • To carry out relevant day-to-day administration in support of the smooth running of the project, including collecting registrations and consent forms.
  • To be aware of and adhere to the Association’s Child Protection & Safeguarding Policies.
  • To accurately record and report any incidents or concerns to the relevant Coordinator.

Essential skills, experience and qualifications

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Experience in a similar role, working with children and young people in a youth-work capacity and/or community setting.
  • An awareness and understanding of youth and community work practice, methodologies, and processes.
  • Digital Skills, a good knowledge of technology, how to operate a range of mobile internet devices and confidence at teaching others to do the same.

Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Experience delivering Basic IT and/or Coding Sessions
  • Educated to at least Standard Grade/National 4 English or equivalent.
  • Awareness and understanding of the importance of Safeguarding and Child Protection.
  • Awareness of the needs and issues facing children and young people today, and of children’s and young people’s culture
  • Awareness of Social Housing.
  • Emergency First Aid at Work/First Aid Certificate.

Number of Hours Per Week 21 hours per week for 26 weeks

Monday – Full day 7 hours Wednesday – AM: 3.5 Thursday – Full Day 7 hours Friday – AM: 3.5 hours

Our main office is at 45 Firhill Road, however the post holder will also spend time working across our local community hubs, including:

  • 472 Hub
  • Windsor Hall
  • The Courtyard

Details of Training Provided

The placement will provide support across all four strands of the Social Regeneration Team - Digital, Communities Opportunities, Youth, and Growing Spaces, with guidance from the relevant project coordinators for each area.

 

The placement will have a named supervisor, Rabeea Qureshi, who will provide regular support, including fortnightly one-to-one check-ins to review progress, discuss challenges, and set objectives. Rabeea will also act as the main point of contact for the Paid Work Placements Glasgow Programme coordinators, ensuring clear communication and guidance throughout the placement.

 

The post holder will also have access to in-house training provided by Queens Cross Housing Association, supporting their professional development and enabling them to gain skills and experience across the different strands of work. This combination of supervision, mentoring, and training will help the placement build confidence, knowledge, and practical experience.
