Whether it is supporting organisations to expand internationally, addressing local labour market needs, driving sustainable economic growth through climate initiatives, or lobbying Government to create the right economic environment to allow its members to flourish.
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has been supporting career education and employment for over a decade acting as a crucial link between business and the education and the local employability support system.
This new role will co-ordinate activity across the city supporting key employment and skills programmes ensuring a streamlined approach to outreach and relationship management.
On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, the Business Engagement Lead will:
- Create new business relationships and be the external lead for skills and employment related programmes.
- Work with existing employability partners to coordinate business engagement.
- Act as a point of contact for businesses to access provision across the city, to recruit and retain diverse and inclusive staff teams.
- Co-ordinate bespoke training programmes to support businesses in talent attraction.
- Create opportunities for those in education and employability programmes to engage with business through employer talks, visits and placements opportunities.
- Share business feedback and insights around recruitment, skills and employment to help shape delivery and development of key partnerships in the city.
- Lead stakeholder groups focused on improving engagement and access to employability programmes for businesses.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience of sales, businesses development and account management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of emerging sectors in industry.
- Clear evidence of ability to communicate effectively at senior management level where appropriate.
- Self-starter and ability to work with limited supervision in a small team.
- Ability to identify gaps and opportunities, creating solutions and acting upon these in a proactive and engaging manner.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines with minimal resources.
- A passion for playing a role in making a difference to the city by working directly with the business community in partnership with key stakeholders.
Desirable
- Knowledge and understanding of Glasgow’s economic issues.
- Experience of working in an economic development, or employability environment.
