Maximising membership: Answering your FAQs

By David Ewing, Membership Executive

As a Membership Executive, one of the most common questions I get asked is “What are the benefits of Membership?” but since that information is already on our website and in our Membership Brochure – though I’m always happy to catch up with anyone for a refresher – I wanted to take a look at some of the more specific frequently asked questions we get asked as a Membership team.

Who in the company can use the membership?

The membership is for the whole organisation and for all employees to use and benefit from. I always encourage anyone in the company who would benefit from having access to our member directory, posting member offers or coming along to an event, to register on our Members’ Portal. Additionally, employees can benefit from any of the company-wide benefits our partners provide, such as the Chamber Primary Health Plan by Westfield Health which allows staff to claim money back, up to set limits, for things like sight tests, glasses or dental bills.

What networking events do you have and how frequent are they?

Our events calendar includes more than 100 networking and showcasing occasions each year including our two flagship events – The Glasgow Business Awards and Congress of Business. We also have regular networking lunches, and our virtual ‘WeeG Chat’ runs on the last Friday of each month.

Glasgow Talks is Glasgow Chamber's monthly series of business seminars featuring influential guest speakers drawn from the business and political elite. Plus, we have introduced frequent activity-based networking events so there’s sure to be an event to suit everyone!

How to make the most of the membership?

Although it may sound simple, making use of all of the benefits of membership is an effective way to ensure members are maximising their membership. Attending networking events, sharing good news stories, using our Member Portal regularly and taking advantage of the cost-saving benefits provided by our affinity partners are all fantastic ways of making the most of the membership.

For our members trading overseas, access to international trade missions and discounted international trade documentation are other ways to take full advantage of membership.

Can you introduce me to other members?

We truly believe Connecting for Growth is key for any business success story and, as such, facilitate member-to-member introductions for businesses looking to reach out and connect with other Chamber members. Our member directory has a full list of our members with a company description, sector and main contact for each business which can be accessed to help get to know fellow members before being introduced.

What are the Chamber values?

We are extremely proud of our values and hope you share some of them in your own company values:

  • Impact – We get things done.
  • Ambition – We think BIG.
  • Collaboration – We help each other.
  • Belonging – Our people make Glasgow Chamber.
  • Integrity – We live by our values.

Are there speaking opportunities available through Chamber membership?

Speaking opportunities are available at various networking events, such as our Members’ Showcase which is a new, exciting event designed to share the stories of inspirational businesses and people from a wide variety of business backgrounds.

We often have guest speakers at our networking lunches and showcased the diverse range of brilliant businesses within Glasgow Chamber’s membership at our Glasgow House series during the UCI Cycling World Championships in 2023. Although we can’t guarantee every member a speaking opportunity, it would be great to hear from you if you are interested!
